[linux-dvb] Using linuxtv/linvdr with VGA port (or FBAS port of gfx board) instead of FBAS connector from TT premium board?

Is ist possible to output the video to the VGA port and use linvdr without
one of those much too expensive boards with MPEG2 decoder chip?

I would like to set up a stand alone linux STB/VCR with 2 cheap DVB-S cards
(SkayStar 2 or TT budget if no useable B2C2 linux driver exists). But I do
not see any reason to buy a highly expensive DVB-S board with MPEG2 decoder
chip when even a Duron@800 MHz will do MPEG2 deconding easily.

But I have read that linvdr needs such a premium DVB board, because it can
only use the FBAS video output of these board, but not send the picture to
the VGA port.

Is this still valid?

Or is it now possible to use software-only MPEG-decoding and send the
picture to the VGA port? That would be VERY great news!

Advantages would be:
-less costs
-more flexibility (no MPEG2-re-encoding required for DivX playback)
-again: more flexibility -> timeshift does not allocate a 300,- EUR board
only for FBAS TV output function
-high quality RGB signal (newer TT premium board lack the internal RGB
connector :-( :-( :-( )

The instructions to build a VGA-2-Euro-AV- / VGA-2-Scart-Interface can be
found here:
http://www.sput.nl/hardware/tv-x.html (the easy version, should be
preferred, IMHO)

Or here (much more and unneccessarily complicated, I think):
http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/vga2tv/circuit.html

I think it's a GREAT disadvantage to be forced to use a premium DVB-S board
for video output, because of the following reasons:
-these boards are very expensive (260-300 EUR / 250-290 USD)
-in timeshift mode the premium board is only used for video output. It is
not possible to receive and record another program simultaneously and it's
not even possible to use timeshift without an additional DVB-S board (which
can be a cheap value version).
-an AMD Duron 1300 costs only 44,- EUR and does MPEG2 or DivX decoding
easily
-for a premium DVB-board you pay ~150,- EUR more than for a
SkyStar2+Duron1300. And for what? Only to be able to decompress MPEG2...
