Thanks Jaakko,

I have not had much time to test the card, but indeed the signal seems to
be at its limits, certainly not saturated. Simply holding the card's
internal coax cable gently between thumb and index finger improves
reception. If the internal video cable is at wrong position there is no
reception at all.

When I originally suspected there might be saturation, Robert Schlabbach
suggested to check HALFADC and SATADC registers. I added some printks to
ves1820.c's ioctl part. There was no saturation on the registers
0x21..0x27 except with register SATDEC3. With qam64 steram the values
or SATDEC3 are around 0..4 and with qam128 the values are around 0..15.
Halfadc values flucatuate in the range 0x50 .. 0x90. Other registers
stay at 0.

I tied to change Ves1820 registers AGCREF and AREF via the proc
interface Dennis has written. I have tried different values but
so far no help.

I have also one DVB-C budget card and will try later if that has any
better reception. But I guess I have to start harassing house
manager and the cable company, HTV.
