[linux-dvb] Re: Does this summarise dvtv setup?

Hello Luke,

I'm considering starting again from the very beginning. Is this a
correct summary of the steps needed?

 1. Get and unpack 2.4.23 kernel.
Ok.

 2. Unpack video4linux.
 3. Unpack bttv and patch.
Not needed if you use "dvb-kernel". (see below)

 4. cvs co DVB
I don't vote for this, please use "dvb-kernel". "DVB" and "dvb-kernel" have the same DVB API, it's just the full-featured av7110 driver that's different (that doesn't affect you). For your setup, using "dvb-kernel" is definately better, because the bttv <=> nebula integration is much better.

 5. cvs co dvb-kernel
Ok.

 6. modify getlinks script for bttv
Not needed.

 7. Build kernel
 8. Build V4L
What does that mean? You mean "Video4Linux" support in the kernel?

 9. make in DVB/driver
10. install in DVB/driver
Not needed.

11. make in dvb-kernel/build-2.4
12. install in dvb-kernel/build-2.4
Ok.

13. make bttv
14. install bttv
Not needed, use the in-kernel bttv driver.

15. Run dvb-nebula to start modules.
Ok.

Does that make sense? Where does Video4linux2 come into the picture?
You have a so-called budget card without video functionality, so v4l2 doesn't affect you.

Is there a patch that works for the released 2.4.23 kernel?
You don't need a patch for a 2.4.23 + bttv + nebula.

luke
Pleae have a look at the "README.bt8xx" for futher details + descriptions.
