[linux-dvb] FYI: Silicon tuner chips on the way...
I just happened to stumble across this today:
http://www.semiconductors.philips.com/news/content/file_1052.html
I've seen a similar announcement from ST Microelectronics some time ago.
"Silicon tuner chips" remove the need for the shielded "tin box", a single
chip can integrate RF frontend, PLL and demodulator. This will allow for
really small DVB-S receiver cards, since the bulky tin box is no longer
needed. I could even imagine that this might pave the path to have DVB-S
reception as a PC _motherboard_ component some day...
I'm curious about the mechanics of the LNB connector, but I figure it'll
look similar to what e.g. S-Video connectors on some graphics cards look
today (a cubic tin box).
Does anyone know if any DVB card maker is already working on a DVB-S card
with such a silicon tuner? I'd sure like to see how these cards look...
