I've just spotted another change:
In alps_bsrv2.c/ves1893_set_inversion() (101):
        case INVERSION_AUTO:
                val = 0x40;

in ves1x93.c/ves1x93_set_inversion() (110):
        case INVERSION_AUTO:
                val = 0x00;


Any of you using INVERSION_AUTO?

Theres also some other code when reading the inversion setting back that looks 
wrong.

A ves1893 datasheet would be a great help here :(
