Lol! Us Set-top-box and integrated DTV folk are all going our own
different ways. I've spoken with other DTV companies about this and the
general consensus is that the Linux DVB V4 APIs are almost there but not
close enough. As a result, most folk are using them as a basis and then
patching in their own requirements. The funny thing is that these
requirements are usually very similar and it would be nice to have a single
set of APIs that fit the bill.

A typical example is the new /dev/vout device which I don't know if anyone
actually uses that yet (please let me know if any apps/people do). I am
seriously planning on knocking up my own denc.h for the Linux DVB V4 API
that allows us (and other STB folks) to set the video output format and
other characteristics of DENCs. It should be a superset of the vbi.h file
that is currently there.

Now I don't want to go ahead knocking up APIs that other APIs already
handle or touch upon, that's why I've sent this mail thread to both lists.

As for the video scaling, I'm currently having a peek at the directFB stuff
as well. ;^)

Cheers,

Rob : )
