I dont think that a slower startup would be a problem. Vdr  start up once per system boot and runs all the time in  background. Nobody needs to start it every five minutes. 
A dynamic loader would make it possible to build extensions without changing anything in the original source from Klaus. People could develope their modules independent from the vdr sources.
