I'm using

  ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/people/kls/vdr/siemens_dvb-0.9-20011117.tgz
  ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/pub/people/kls/vdr/vdr-0.99pre1.tgz

with SuSE 7.3, kernel 2.4.10-4GB (original SuSE) on an AMD K6/II 450
and have none of the ARM crashes that have been reported recently.
My system does an occasional restart ("emergency exit") when it tries
to record an encrypted channel, but that's apparently due to the CAM
stopping decoding. After a driver reload it works fine again.
I haven't missed a recording in months
