maybe it's the reason for the black screen.
If it is, just try to wait 20 - 30 minutes.

It is definetly libdvdcss related. My guess is that is has something to
do with getting keys from RPC2 DVD drives and/or DVD's with new/unknown
keys. Switching to libdvdcss-0.0.3-ogle might be the best idea.
