[vdr] AW: Maxtor 160 GB

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my Maxtor 160GB. I tried first a Promise
FastTrak100 IDE raid controller. There, the disk had only 137GB. This is
the missing 48Bit addressing of the controller.

Promise Support:

    The FastTrak100 does not support 48bit-LBA.  If you want to see the
full size upgrade to the FastTrak100TX2 or FastTrakTX2000.

Okay, now I tried the hpt370 highpoint onboard ide raid controller. Same
problem.


Abit support (for hpt370 onboard):

Sorry, HPT370 can only support up to 140GB HDD.

Well, at last, I bought a Promise Ultra 133 IDE controller for 78 EUR
(www.kmelektronik.de). Now the harddisks were correct identified (as
157GB disks).
Now the next problem: the kernel does not support the Promise Ultra 133
:)
I tried the ide patches from Hedrick with kernel 2.4.17, but does now
work.
But since 2.4.18 is the driver for this promise included.

I use at the moment kernel 2.4.18-ac2 and it is stabile.

For everyone, who wants to buy a 160GB disk (or more than 137GB) ->
first check you controller :)
