Hi Marco,

I'm making this. I had the problems like you (CPU speed). Now I'm using a
G400 with TV-out. The picture quality is very good (after some heavy patching
of the matroxfb drivers; I've submitted patches to the matroxfb maintainer to
control the TV-out parameters like brightness, contrast etc.).

Biggest problem is still the synchronisation when viewing vdr. With mplayer I
rely on the mplayer mga drivers, which have problems with interlaced streams
(files from vdr) but are very good with full frame material (like TV with
only odd/even lines or DVD). With vdr I perform a resyncing to the correct
frame which makes the picture perfect, but gives some distortions from time
to time, which is not so nice. It's all difficult to set up.

I'm about to write some code to control mplayer/vdr niceley. This will be
based on directFb and gtk. When running vdr the OSD is presented on the VGA
card.

To get this solution working many patches are needed and it doesn't run
stable yet. Therefore I don't want to "release" these things yet. But perhaps
sometimes in the future :-).

Mike
