Mh, even if I get a continuous transfer rate of 20 MB per second 
(10 MB/s for reading and 10 MB/s for writing, which is pretty good
performance on the same harddisk), cutting a simple 120 minute film will
take about 5 Minutes (2*1.5GB / (10MB/s) = 300s).

So cutting takes a little more than "a few seconds"!
