[vdr] Re: Multiuser?

I'm working on a multi-user project for the DVB Linux drivers
provisionally called dvbr. I only started the project a couple of weeks
ago and so I have yet to set up a web site for it.

Currently it is only capable of recording programs and not live
streaming but I have written a lot of the streaming code already.

The idea of the project is to create a Networked Video Recorder and so
I'm not planning on adding direct support for TV-outs (like on the full
DVB cards).

I'm developing the project using a Hauppauge Nova-t card (budget DVB-T)
and the project supports the recording of multiple programs from the
same multiplex at the same time. So here in the UK I can record the
channels BBC1, BBC2, CBBC, CBeebies and News 24 all at the same time.
When live streaming support is finished it should be possible to record
and stream multiple programs from the same multiplex concurrently. If
you use more than one DVB card then it would be possible to
record/stream multiple programs from multiple multiplexes
simultaneously.

Regards,

Simon

Subject: [vdr] Multiuser?

Greetings,

I would like to build a Linux VDR System. When I was studying the former
mails a few questions remained unanswered.

1. What options do I have in creating multi-user Support for the VDR.
What I've in mind is a server with three primary DVB-S cards. Every
primary card is connected to a TV set. Then secondary cards should be
used for recording. I seems that is not possible with vdr. Are there any
plans in developing multi-user support for the vdr? What alternatives do
I have? I want a system with shared harddisk content of the recored
material.

2. When I share harddisk space with other user, what option do I've in
hide one partition? (everyone should access the hole archive, but noone
have to know the I watch Sabrina) A small partition should be enough -
about 20GBs.

BTW: I would like to read me through anything; are there any howtos,
faq, manuals or something like that available?

Thanx
