Interesting, because i use a P2@233MHz at the moment with DVB, DVD, VCD and MP3 and i have no distortions in DVD play.
Maybe your distribution does not set the maximum possible speed for your hd's.  :-)

433MHz is definitely a little to less to view DIVX over the DVB's. I think a celeron @600MHz would fitting your needs. The more the better.
