AFAIK you need more than just setting the right modeline.
At least at my V3K you would have to install the sensors-package including an 
v3k-i2c interface which sets up some devices under /proc.
Then you would have to cat some numbers in one of those devices to activate 
TVout (lots of fine tuning possible here, of course you can do it with a 
script).
