It's not the question how your partitions are formatted.
With VFAT=1 VDR creates directory names that can be accessed
under Windows (which is somewhat "technically challenged" in that
area ;-). However, these no longer work with a VDR that has been
compiled without VFAT=1. So if you record with one setting and replay
with another, that doesn't work. It's either _always_ VFAT=1 or _never_.
