That 11 MBit data rate is a gross rate. Tests
in magazines showed that WLAN Cards are able to
transfer 500-600 KB/s under good conditions.

In real life, if've never seen more than 250 KB/s
within a distance of 10 meters. On larger distance,
that data rate degrades rapidly.
