i have a desktop case and tried a fan from above and a slot fan from beside - both worked quiet well
you could also check the contact of the cover and the chip - be careful with the cover, if you "change" something on the coils your tuner probably won´t work anymore

i favor the slot fan, it takes away the warm air direktly from above the metal cover
(reduced to 7 V to have less noise)
