Not exactly an elaborate error message, right?
I have seen that message, too.
At least here, it meant that the connection to http://tvtv.de
was not made before the perl library hit a timeout.
That's why there is a ping in the update_timers script.
Did you try the update_timers script at all?
Can you get the http://www.tvtv.de/cgi-bin/bookmark.cgi?id=...
URL using wget?
Right after a successfull wget, does get_merkliste.pl still fail?

If you cannot get it to work, talk to Axel Gruber and Rolf Hakenes.
They created get_merkliste.pl. See the README file.
