Use -ovc divx4 as version 1.53 (and all prior) was written for divx4 codec 
(you have to install it, of course) - or use -ovc and change the -lavcopts 
accordingly to the mencoder DOCS !
Or be patient and i will improve and release my current work version, 
including support for libavcodec / xvid / divx4 - then you can simply choose 
your codec in the config file !
However this release could still take a few days, since some cleanup is still 
necessary ... and i cannot find the time at the moment !
Send PM if you want "unstable" Work-in-Progress release :-)
