Just a small hint from comercial DVD:

The player region code is part of the SPRM (player system parameter)
together with the GPRM (general parameters) this is responsible for all the advanced DVD interaction stuff.

Unfortunely there are discs out that compare the player region code to its own parameter and jump to a region code violation screen if it fails.
The spec tells a disc should be played if the appropriate region bit is set (and ignore additionally set region bits). Those disc are not ignoring the additional bits.
Some player developer seems to have found a way to fool those disc too.
May be they are checking if a command tries to compare region code bits and tweak the result ;-)
May be Andreas should give it a thought...

no idea if they use the same lib but I dont think he added a
region-code-check if he says that he want to skip the copyright-msgs at the
beginning of the DVDs like he sad about the key config
