The best, IMHO, is to have a extra wire, as not ever the connectors on
both ends are RCA and anyway the plug could put in contact the "active"
signal wire *before* connect the ground :-(.

A warning here is that many devices have a power line filter that is
directly on the power connector, before the power button; then, the
system can be Powered_Off, but the risks are the same!, if the power cord
is pluged. The reason of this is that this filters commonly have two
small capacitors wired to the ground of the device; this capacitors allow
to pass a very small current that could break other to be connected 
device, if the grounds are not connected *first*.

The ground of the other wires (antena, composite video) is enought to
connect the devices, but the problem is that not ever the ground pin
could be the first connected or that some of this cables can be not
connected at one time (ie, for a "fast test" :-( ).

So, it's *worth* to have an extra permanent cable :-).
