[vdr] How to convert the videos??

Hello List,

in the past I converted my videos with "tosvcd", but the produces SVCD have 
no sufficient sync between audio and video... audio is something about 2 sec. 
ahead :-((

Is there a solution for this or should I convert my videos to divx? 
If I convert it with divx, how do I have to do this. I'm using vdr 1.1.12.
Is there a docu available???
