For this particular issue, you need to use a different output X and Y
resolution. If you have a NTSC-compatible TV, you can use
mplayer -vo mpegpes -vop lavc,scale=240:240 1.avi
mplayer -vo mpegpes -vop lavc,scale=480:480 1.avi
instead of PAL resolutions (288 or 576 for Y resolution).
You will then get a smooth playback for 29.997 (NTSC) divx.

(but the other issue with the HEAD driver is a different matter).

Olivier.
