I had the same problem. All I did was modify the mplayer "c" file
of the MP3/Mplayer plugin. There is a line, where the path is
given. Hardcode this to your direct location.

After that my mplayer worked (although I don't really like
mplayer, after seeing some of the results ;o))

Haven't tried this with Sascha's new Mplayer plugin, tho.
