Mplayer said Could not open /initialize audio > device > no Sound
Audio : no sound

I think mplayer donßt know the option -ao alsa9 ??
But why

I have alsa installed how it is on the webpage

i don't have the same thing as you but the opposite!
mplayer & hwac3 works perfectly but i can't use ac3play

here is the things i changed in my modules.conf for my SBLive! 1024

alias char-major-116 snd
options snd major=116 cards_limit=1
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
options snd-emu10k1 index=0 id="Emu10k1" extout=0x1f0f
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
options snd-pcm-oss snd_dsp_map=0 snd_adsp_map=3

then, you have to activate the Optical output with

amixer sset "IEC958 Optical Raw" on

Then, use mplayer with the command line:

mplayer -ao alas9:/dev/adsp -ac hwac3 ....
