what kind of ir receiver do you use?
there are 3 main streams
-LIRC (make with REMOTE=LIRC)
-build-in IR of the card (only needs the ir-plugin)
-RCU (special build from Klaus Schmidinger http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/remote.htm)
