it's possible tu use a buffer cache like the -cache - option in mplayer
for the dvd-plugin. that's needed for my dvd-drive in case that the
dvd-media is bad ... playing a dvd produces from time to time glitches.
if i use mplayer with -cache 16384 this problem doesn't exist.

you can't. The buffering is keept at a minimum to allow for smooth menu
and trick play transitions. No more that one VOBU is cached and changing
that would IMHO require a complete rewrite of libdvdnav.
