I also have been of that opinion, but hardware limits to much (no new
codecs, buggy firmware). That's why I'm going for CPU with
power-management-based soft-decoding, now

Vice versa. The low bandwith of DivX is no problem, but DVD is.

My 300 MHz PII Notebook plays DivX very well with MPlayer, while DVD can
get block artefacts.
