I had no luck at all getting the AC3 stream from neither a DVD nor

Does the stream scanner detects the AC3 frames?
Means, does you see a message like "multichannel: new
encapsulator xx" on the console?

Hmm... is the "stream scanner" a builtin part of vdr or do I have to
start it manually (how) ?

I just had a look at the output of

/usr/local/bin/vdr2 -c /usr/local/src/VDRNEW -E /usr/local/src/VDRNEW \
-r /usr/local/src/VDRNEW/se.sh -s /usr/local/bin/vdrshutdown -w 60 \
-a /usr/local/bin/a52dec -Pdvd 2>&1 | tee logfile

and I didn't notice a line you mentioned, BUT the following:

"(028) 00 b1 00 0e 69 77 00 1f | if ( g[14] != 0x6977 (a52dec-0.7.5-cvs
  - by Michel Lespinasse <walken@zoy.org> and Aaron Holtzman
  Can not open /dev/dsp
  Can not open output
"

Although I have (Dolby PLII) sound, could this be the problem ? How do I
have to integrate a52dec ? (if I have to do that at all, in vdr-1.0.4 I
definitely had to) ?

Any hint would be highly appreciated
