  If I have followed this list for the pcr discussion correctly, the idea
about pcr is to syncronize the transmitter (mpeg encoder) and receiver
(mpeg decoder) clocks to avoid them crawling significantly apart from each
other.  If one of them is running too fast with respect to the other, this
would mean that eventually receiver buffers either underrun or overrun,
resulting in gaps/glitches or dropped frames or sound.

  This syncronization is necessary even with one stream - video or audio.

  Why this missing syncronization also resulted in incorrect av sync,
probably could be classified as a feature in the current firmware.  It did
not happen in earlier firmwares, before timeshifting functionality.
Anyway, setting pcr pid correctly is the right way to fix it.
