[vdr] Re: Motherboard with more than 6 pci slots

I'm going to build a big vdr-server, which will need more than 6 pci
slots. Any suggestions for such a board (with an affordable price)?
I don't think that you will have much success with > 4 DVB card in one computer. I think the load on the PCI bus is too much if the PCI bus is not bridged to several "stand-alone" busses.

Maybe you're read my question about cTS2PES errors. Meanwhile I discovered that the P4 mainboard with 6 PCI slots (that is full with cards) causes the problems. Now I'm using an old K7 750 MHz system and have nearly no recording errors with two budget cards. In the K7 system the DVB card and a LAN card is installed not more. In the P4 system no recording was ever useful (too much errors in the stream) regardless of CPU ressources.

I like to know how many DVB cards are successfully in use by other people? I think the following data will help other people to build big vdr servers.

- Mainboard with Biosversion
- RAM
- CPU
- Linux kernel
- DVB driver
- DVB cards
- other cards
- what other think does this system do (e.g. mailserver)
