Hi

Here i use 4 DVB-S cards within in a Asus Mainboard (donīt ask me about the type) with
a 1,3 GHz Athlon.

The only limitation at the moment is the Network - first i had all Harddisk within this
VDR and i was able to record 9 Streams at the same time to Harddisk.
Now i boot it over the Network and also the Harddrives are in a NFS-Server.
Now iīm able to do 5-6 Recordings and 1 Playback at same time - but this depend
on the Data-Rate of the Broadcaster. Sometimes i have Buffer-Problems.

If i would build such a system at the moment i would suggest to use Nova-Cards.

Fast-Harddrives are a "must" if you want to record on this SERVER.

Here i have 16 120GB Maxtor Drives with Promise Fast-Track controllers (no Raid)
works very well - but donīt ask about the Heat. The Server with the Harddrives have 8 Fanīs.

And soon i will buy a GB-Ethernet for the SERVER and the VDRīs then i hope all
Network-Problems are gone...

PS: Yes - the Fileserfer do other things too (Router, Firewall, Squid-Proxy, Samba-Server, DNS,......) No Problems at all.

PSē: Serverhardware: Pentium III 800Mhz with 512MEM
