[vdr] nova-card

hi everybody
well, i have a simple question : i have an old Hauppauge WinTV Nova ie 
without mpeg decoder, i would like to know if vdr is able to read video 
stream without mpeg decoder. in this case, what have i to do ? i learnt the 
doc but found nothing...
if it is not yet possible, is there possible to write a plugin, or something 
like this, which could let the user choose the way to decode the stream (ie : 
materially with the mpeg decoder integrated in the card, or by software like 
mplayer or vlc) ?
