I've solved my DMA problems with the ASUS A7V8X by upgrading to
linux-2.4.21-pre5-ac3. However, after that, the second IDE bus (where the
DVD drive is connected to), does no longer work. As far as I could see on
some mailing lists, this is a known issue. I haven't tried a newer kernel,
yet.

With that kernel, most VDR related things work fine. I still have some
problems with strong bit errors on _one_ of my DVB-S cards, but couldn't
yet find out whether this is a hardware problem, a driver problem or a
problem of VDR.

One other thing that does not work with the newer kernel is the nvidia
display driver. Therefore, I'm using an older kernel in my (second) A7V8X
machine which is connected to a monitor.

BTW: I'm using the standard kernels from kernel.org, not SuSE kernels.

Ciao,

Tobias
