[vdr] Low-Noise Info Tidbit

Hi all,

Just for your info in case you are looking for new ;o) low noise
equipment for your VDR box. I can heartily recommend the following:

- PSU -> HEC-300LR-PT[SR]

This is a 300Watt PSU which *really* earns the award low (no) noise.
It has enough power connections for most VDR boxes and can be used
with AMD & P4 platforms. It is considerably heavier than most 300W
PSUs and is well built on the inside (yep, typical service personal instinct
having to look onto the guts of everything I buy ;o)). They used a little
too much goop for my taste (for attaching the thermister & gluing down
heavier components), but other than that, it looks good. It is PFC and
contains two massive heatsinks on the power transistors. Even when open,
the case is sturdy as there is a brace from front to rear. When running you
hear almost nothing of the (thermal controlled) fan (80 mm)
Price 49 Euro from Alternate (I got it a bit cheapier ;o))

- HDD- SP 1604N 160GB HDD from Samsung.

As I couldn't find the 5400 rpm version from Samsung (for a decent price)
I decided to chance it and take the 7200 rpm version. All I can say is that
I was pretty amazed. It is very quiet. You have to put your ear to it in
order to hear if it's running. It's even a bit quieter than my 80GB
Seagate ;o))
Price: 139.- also from Alternate

Greetz,
Reinhard.
