implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix.", so I think X
is needed.
You can run wine without graphical output.
Yust change the GraphicsDriver setting in your wine configuration file to
"GraphicsDriver" = "ttydrv"
The standard setting is "GraphicsDriver" = "x11drv".
