Hi all,

I am encountering a problem trying to install Suse 8.2 Prof on
my new dedicated VDR computer. This is an all in one board using
the Nvidia Nforce chipset (which also includes a Geforce MX 4
video card onboard). Memory for the VGA graphics card is shared
with the main memory. However, Suse refuses to install as soon
as I have the onboard VGA enabled. Even in "safe" mode, the Suse
kernel dies as soon as it starts looking for onboard components
(nice ;o(( blinking LEDs on the keyboard and a "sweet" messages
saying "Ayee, tring to kill init. Kernel panic".

Using an external VGA on the AGP port works fine and Suse can
be installed even in normal install mode. But this isn't what
I was looking for.

Any ideas on how I can convince Suse to share main memory with
the onboard VGA card? Or how can I tell the kernel to reserve
memory for the onboard VGA.

Oh, BTW, if it makes a difference: I am using a single stick of
256MB RAM. It doesn't matter how much memory I reserve for the
VGA card (8-256MB possible) nor does the behavoir change, when
I adjust the VGA aperature in the BIOS.

Greetz,
Reinhard

What?

Cheers,
Juri
