[vdr] Re: Playing DVD ?

Maybe it is possible to use Xine for the DVD-Playback and pipe
its output to mplayer for dvb-output.

That might work on a 2GHz Box, but i doubt that it will work on a 200MHz Pentium which is currently sufficient for DVD playback.

AFAIK mplayer plays nearly every mpeg-stream _without_ recoding
to dvb-output, so there should be nearly no difference in needed
CPU-power.

I doubt that broad asseration. If you try to play
divx 3.11 ("almost" mpeg-4 and thats a mpeg stream,
isn't it?) this has to be recoded to mpeg-2 for the
dvb output. And the dvb output is quite picky about
the format of the pictures, so recoding to a format
the dvb card supports, is required, too.
