Is there any possibility to have an "on the fly" conversion (downmix)
for the AC3 audio to mpeg audio ?
Certainly. You can find code for this inside the DVD plugin. It does
downmixing if used without AC3overDVB.
I have little question about AC3overDVB vs. downmixing in dvd plugin. Which
eats more cpu? I've been so far using dvd plugin and had it downmix the ac3
sounds. It's working nicely, but I would still like more ac3 sounds. But
I'm not sure if my machine is enough for that.. P200MMX, with 64 megs of
ram..

Downmixing of course needs more cpu power. But if downmixing with DVD plugin
worked on your machine, your cpu seems to be fast enough for this.

Using downmix for recording with AC3 stream seems quite useless to me. I
haven't seen a broadcast company which doesn't provides a dolby-surround
downmix in parallel to the AC3 stream.
Yes, for real recordings this is probably true. But I thought of copying vob
files from a DVD to a VDR recordings folder so I can play it with VDR. This
works actually just fine apart from the missing sound. Would it be possible to
use the DVD plugin for downmixing the AC3 sound of these "recording" or would
VDR actually have to be patched with the downmixing code ?

Thanks, Ondrej ...
