Sorry, I guess I've missed correcting the path inside the Aluminium archive. 
The font should be in
/etc/vdr/plugins/text2skin/Aluminium  (for per-skin fonts)
/etc/vdr/plugins/text2skin/fonts  (for system-wide fonts)
