News story: Fox TV tries fixed image ads

Hi, German Netzeitung writes on http://www.netzeitung.de/internet/443044.html that Fox TV tries to force ads even in digital recordings by using fixed images. According to the story, you can't skip or cut fixed images. What kind of nonsense are they writing? Why should it be "technically impossible" to cut fixed images, e.g. from an MPEG2 stream? Maybe automatic ad cutters can't spot them (by now) but you should always be able to do the job manually. Or am I missing something? I can't find an English version of the article above, sorry. You can always use the fish, though, even if it sounds funny. Maybe someone from the U.S. can confirm or deny the story? -- Please try to limit the amount of "this room doesn't have any bazingas" until you are told that those rooms are "punched out". Once punched out, we have a right to complain about atrocities, missing bazingas, and such. -- N. Meyrowitz

Control Plugin and Keys F1 - F12

Hi, when using the Control-Plugin with Telnet keyboard keys F1 - F12 do not work. Are there any settings/escape-sequences to activate that keys or isn't it possible to use them? Thanx for any hint Renne

HTTP-Version of Control-Plugin?

Hi, is there any plugin working like the control plugin but using HTTP instead of Telnet? This would allow to control VDR from a Browser. OSD options could be links and keypresses could be catched by JavaScript. Thanx for any hint Renne

Hi, what does "At the moment it publishes parts of the local OSD menu contents" mean? Is the OSD available grapically at the SVDRP port by telnet (like with control plugin)? Thanx for any hint Renne

multiple keypresses with remote plugin

Using the remote plugin with a /dev/input/eventX setup for a hauppauge grey remote via a nova-t sensor with X11/Xv using softdevice works perfectly. With the same setup with directfb single button presses very often are detected as multiple button presses. It seems somehow that there's no minimum time between button presses unless the X server is running. Anyone got a clue about what's missing when using directfb? Hi there, epgsync-0.0.2 is now available. It fixes a possible segfault, so everyone who uses epgsync should update. The segfault is triggered when the svdrpservice plugin encounters an unexpected error while processing an LSTE command (e.g. SVDRP connection lost, line exceeds buffer length, ...). Changelog: - Fixed segfault when svdrpservice plugin encountered a problem while syncing (reported by greenman@vdrportal) - Now running as a low priority thread to get rid of (or at least reduce) the impact epgsync had in some environments (thanks to Artur Skawina) Epgsearch is available at http://vdr.schmirler.de. [RFE] Soft-cancel cThread

Hi, I have a suggestion for a VDR change: I could use a way to end a cThread externally without having to wait and without hard canceling it. My thread runs with the usual while (Running()) loop. To signal the loop to stop, it would be enough to set running=false. However, running is a private member of cThread. The only way to set running=false is to call Cancel(). This involves killing the thread and waiting for the thread to terminate. Two things I actually don't want. There are two ways this could be done. First, by adding a function SoftCancel() { running=false; }. Or second, by modifying Cancel() to just set running=false if called with Cancel(-1) or Cancel(0,false) or similar. As a workaround I'm now using while (Running() && running2) - which is imho ugly. Background: I have to terminate several threads at the same time, and calling Cancel(1) sequentially would be a waste of time. I want to set running=false on all threads first, and then cancel the remains later. Cheers, Udo
