Question about epg.data updating.

When VDR compares epg data to see whether its been updated, does it actually compare the show description/info data or just certain fields in the epg data entry? I'm guessing the latter because I've noticed that when I populate extended epg data, a lot of shows will have a generic description. I let a few days go by and the generic description is still there in my epg data but if I delete epg.data and re-populate it, the description is updated. This leads me to believe VDR isn't comparing the entire epg entry for changes but perhaps just changes with show name or so. Can anyone add clarity to this? It's happened so many times that I can't believe it's coincidence.

no transponder/initial file for DVB-C in New Zealand

Hi. I've just taken receipt of my TT-1500 DVB-C card, but can't find any channels. I've run 'dvbsnoop -s pidscan' but find nothing - but as I don't know what to tune the card to, I guess that's expected? remotetimers plugin

Hi. I can't get this plugin to work - I get a "remote timers" and "remote schedule" unavailable message on the 'client'. svdrp works - and so does remoteosd. Any ideas?

multi-box VDR & epgsearch conflict resolution

Hi I have a couple of boxes running VDR on a network. I've ended up in this situation because of a lack of PCI slots for capture cards, and a PVR-500/Via chipset incompatability. I can use the remote menu plugin to set timers in the 2nd box from the 1st one, which is great. I run vdradmin, and epgsearch to create auto-timers based on epg, which is also great! What I would like to do is automatically resolve timer conflicts, and push the timer event to the 2nd box. Any thoughts??

Feedback required for vdr setup with analogtv

Hi All, I'm planning on building a PVR device based on Linux and an el-cheapo TV-tuner card (no MPEG encoder). I looked at both MythTV and vdr and personally liked vdr better for the way the plugins are overlayed over the stream. Anyway, I read up a lot of documentation on th vdr wiki and had a look at the various plugins which are available for el-cheapo TV-tuners in vdr. I think I'll mostly be going with a bt878 chipset card as that is the one most widely available in my local markets (India). Just wanted to check up if I have everything covered before I go ahead and make the purchase. Correct me if I'm wrong here, I'll most probably be using the analogtv plugin for the bt878 card. As the card will not have a MPEG encoder, I'll need to do the MPEG encoding using software components like mplayer or ffmpeg and feed it as input to vdr. The cards which I'm looking at are the PixelView playTV series[1] and the Pinnacle PCTV series[2]. I could'nt find any vdr based howtos for these cards so really not sure if my plan is foolproof. Please let me know if what I've planned will work well with vdr and the analogtv plugin ? I'm more interested in the OSD based plugins and development of the same. With a el-cheapo TV-tuner card and the analogtv plugin this should still be possible right ? VDSB with m920x-2bfda2098748 and TT-Budget/WinTV-NOVA-CI PCI

Hi, I was trying to get my MSI Digivox Mini SL to run with m920x-2bfda2098748. Basically, the USB stick works fine but my TT-Budget/WinTV-NOVA-CI PCI seems to refuse work with the budget_ci driver contained therein. The setup is: frontend 1 Fujitsu Siemens Activy Budget-S PCI (Astra) frontend 2 TT-Budget/WinTV-NOVA-CI PCI (Astra; no CI attached) frontend 3 Sky2PC/SkyStar 2 DVB-S (Hotbird) frontend 4 MSI Digivox Mini SL DVB-T (DE-Munich, just to play with) Sourcecaps patch etc. work fine. Softdevice-0.4.0 used as the MPEG decoder. Any help is welcome. It would also be nice if "make insmod" did not load *all* of the DVB drivers, just the ones that are actually needed. It's also interesting to see that even if a recording starts for a channel that is on the same bouquet as the one tuned in on receiver 1, the second receiver is used for the recording. Is that by chance or on purpose? -- Write-Protect Tab, n.: A small sticker created to cover the unsightly notch carelessly left by disk manufacturers. The use of the tab creates an error message once in a while, but its aesthetic value far outweighs the momentary inconvenience. -- Robb Russon

Thanks for the hints, however, I can't try it anymore. The latest freeze has left my data partition with a corrupt metadata tree and -- rebuild-tree gave the filesystem it's rest. After some research on Reiser4 and the surprising twist in Hans Reiser's personal fate (he was arrested with murder charges last October), I'm having my doubts as far as further development/ bugfixing is concerned and therefore decided to switch back to ext3 before playing back the backup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_reiser Cheers, -sven

Freezes with Reiserfs

Hi I'm having strange issues with my VDR box lately. However, I'm not sure at all it has anything to do with VDR as other services are running on it, too. The Gentoo box freezed four times in the past month, twice of which the very minute a VDR timer stopped. (Maybe even all four times, but I haven't checked that relation the first two times it happened.) The log doesn't help a bit, the machine simply ceases to do anyting. I've checked RAM and other parts of the system with no indication at all. However, I've seen that some people had issues a few years ago with ReiserFS (which I'm using, too).
