vdr memory leak when record noisy signal.

Hi, I'm using kernel 2.6.20 with vdr-1.4.7 with streamdev plugin. When I'm record even more than 10 simultaneous video timers, the memory consumption is below 400 MBytes. But when any noise appears in the signal, the memory goes up to 1 Gigabyte, the whole system memory, then system starts malfunctioning. Sometimes when I restart vdr, the memory frees, and sometimes I should restart the whole system to free up the memory. Where is the source of this memory leakage? Why the vdr doesn't free up memory when the noise goes out? Thanks. Jikjikman.

vdr-pin-0.1.9 not locking menu

Hi, I decided to try the pin plugin (0.1.9) with vdr-1.5.9 today. I noticed that the patch that came with the pin plugin was only for vdr-1.4.x, but the merges seemed trivial and it appears to work fine. The plugin does seem to have a few minor problems. It appears that when I associate "Recordings" or "Timers" to a keymacro or separate key on the remote, vdr still allows me to access them even when the childlock is enabled. Also, I would like to prevent someone from being able to push the "recording" button on the remote when the childlocks are enabled, but this also still seems to work. It appears that really only the main menu is locked when the childlock is enabled. I would like to have most of the keys on the remote locked as well (and not just have the menu options locked). VDR for my grandfather

Dear list, First, I hope this list is also for hardware questions. If not, could you please recommend me a mailing list for such a topic. Second, do you know if most people from vdr-portal.de are also reading this list? Here is my problem. My grandfather likes to have videos of special events like birthdays, etc. Some years ago he did this by himself with a VHS-Camcorder and VHS-Recorder and used both for cutting. The VHS-Recorder broke and now he has a Hard-Disk-and-DVD-Recorder from Pioneer DVR-520H. I used my Mini-DV-Camcorder from Panasonic NV-GS500 at the last event and recorded the footage. But I do not have the time to go through everything and cut it and edit the scene transitions, etc. My grandfather said, he would do it by himself. So I need hardware and software, that he can easily cut footage, enter titles and add music and commentary. 1. Do you know, if there exist easy to use software for this kind of task even an over 80-year-old could handle. Here are my ideas with pros and cons. 2. He has already the hard-disk-DVD device with firewire. As far as I know one can do basic editing with the remote control. But controlling everything with the remote is too troublesome in my opinion. 3. Buy a HTPC and replace the hard-disk-DVD device. Do you know, if it is possible to do editing tasks with the CRT TV as a monitor and maybe one could add a keyboard and a mouse. What requirements should such a HTPC have for recording TV-shows (since its replacing the hard-disk-DVD-recorder) and editing videos? (A link to a thread should be sufficient, since such questions are probably already answered somewhere.) 4. To solve the problem with the CRT TV as screen, probably one should by a laptop. To record TV-shows it is hooked up in the living room. And to edit he takes it to his desk and plugs in a keyboard and mice, since I think, he would not be able to handle a touchpad and the laptop keyboard. In solution 3. and 4. I can also support him, logging into the machine from mine over the Internet. What do you guys thinks. Thanks a lot in advance. Paul

Lot of distortions in replay

Lately I have had problems with recordings as if there is bits and pieces missing from the recording. Sometimes there seems to be missing 30sec or more. And these dropouts comes sometimes frequently like every minute or so. Femon shows good signal and snr and ber is quite low also. I remember sometime been reading about dvb card sensitivity to power supply. Does anyone have similar experiences? I'm using vdr-1.4.6 with a couple of technotrend/hauppauge dvb-c cards (Nexus-CA and Nova-C). I'm also using dxr3 as video out. \\Kartsa

vdr-1.5.9 and ttxtsubs patch/plugin

Hello, I downloaded the patch for both vdr and the ttxtsubs plugin from Rolf's page, but the subtitles aren't showing. With a quick look (and I remark "quick" so I may be wrong) it seems that the patches now don't change anymore the osd but use the new osd level in vdr-1.5.9. I'd like to know if the new patch is supposed to be working, or the cause the subtitles aren't showing is my hurriedly patched dxr3 and xine plugins. If the latter, do you have any hint on how to correctly implement osd level in said plugins? Bye -- Luca

Mid range CPU choice

About to step into the deep end and build my first VDR box. In fact 2 of them at the same time both with the exact same specs. All parts are going to be new. New CPU's are a lot more confusing than the simple days of single cores at fixed clockspeeds. My question is what CPU should I chose for good noise reducing , heat reducing solutions. For processing power and cost I am looking at AMD AM2 4000 and Intel Duel Core E2140 and Intel core2 Duo E4400. I am open to other suggestions as long as they can currently be purchased in store. Since the system will be spending 95% of it's time idle I want a CPU that can drop down to the slowest possible clock speed with the least power consumption. I will also be using temperature controlled fans to keep it real quiet and any other ways I can find to drop down power and noise. Advice on the best CPU choice would be much appreciated.

a simple locale question

Hello, In writing a plugin that displays a date, it occurred to me that date in a locale-friendly way might be a good idea. What is the current 'blessed' way to make vdr display a date? I suppose it could be a setup option, but that just seems kindda drab. _J

DVD plugin stutters

It has again been a while since I wrote to the list. Now I have managed to create an "out of the box system" by using repositories. My audio replay is kinda stuttering when replaying DVD's with dvd plugin. It's like the volume would be waving up and down with a rate of about 5Hz. I have a DXR3 and I have tried all possible things I could think of. Anybody had similar problems? I thought I'd try using mplayer plugin for DVDplayback but for some reason my mplayer plugin does not want to play DVD's (don't know why all settings should be correct in mplayer.sh.conf, even set debug to true). On settop player the disk plays fine. I have vdr-1.4.6 and dvd-0.3.6-b03. all installed through yum on a fedora core 7 system. I have actually three systems and it happens on all of them. They all have dxr3 but thats about the similarities they have. \\Kartsa
