xine settings for VDPAU SD and HD

I'm trying to get VDPAU working so I can watch HD TV, but I'm having trouble getting a good picture. My question is should I be using the xine options: --post vdr_video --post_audio or --post tvtime:method=use_vo_driver I dont understand what the difference is and whether one is preferred over the other for interlaced and/or HD/SD. My setup: Asus M3N78-EM (onboard Nvidia 8300) Athlon Dual Core (set to 2Ghz for now) HDMI output to Samsung Plasma Hauppauge Nova SD2 OpenSuse: kernel 2.6.27.10 Nvidia driver180.51 ffmpeg from svn on 8 June xine-lib-1.2 from hg on 8 June with r262 patch xine-ui-cvs-20090412200000 vdr-1.7.7 vdr-xine 0.9.2 I have the buffer settings from a previous mail to this list: engine.buffers.video_num_buffers:2000 engine.buffers.video_num_frames:30 Thanks, Scott

Hi, I have vdr 1.7.7 running happily, but just realized only embedded subtitles are working. I understand this should be working without any plugin and have not changed any default subtitle settings. Can somebody point out where to start the troubleshooting? Any ideas?

vdr-api: how to check if VDR is up?

Hi, the epgsearch plugin handles some tasks as separate threads, that also use SVDRP to talk to VDR. Currently these threads are started after a fixed time (e.g. 20s) to give VDR the time to start up. A user reported that epgsearch fails in SVDRP communication, because VDR was still waiting for its devices (and therefore is not yet ready to accept SVDRP connections): Jun 3 20:07:40 vdr vdr: [3466] not all devices ready after 30 seconds These 30 seconds are only defined in vdr.c and are therefore 'invisible' to plugins. So I'm looking for 'clean' way to check if VDR is up and ready. Of course, one could do any SVDRP command, e.g. 'help', and check the result, but thats quite cumbersome. Next idea: use cPlugin::Housekeeping() to signal the threads that VDR is idle now after startup. This works, but sometimes takes up to >90s. Any idea how to get a better solution? Thanks, Christian

The 0.2.2 version fixes GCC-4.4 compile issues, is ready for VDR-1.7.6 - VDR-1.7.8, and comes in a special version for the soon to be announced VDR-1.6.0-2-tsplay patch. xineliboutput's media player doesn't show correct length

Hi, i'm using vdr-1.6.0 with xineliboutput plugin(tried both 1.0.4 and latest cvs). I'm using a client - server setup with my client pc running vdr-sxfe only. When i use the media player within vdr-sxfe to play movies the lenght of the played movies is not shown correctly. It always says there are only 10 seconds left to play (even right in the beginning of a two hour movie). However the movie plays fine. Additionally or maybe as a consequence to the length problem i can't jump forward or backword using the color keys. I can use fast-forward but it often switches back to normal play on its own. Is this a known problem with xineliboutput (or maybe its related to xine-lib ?) ? Is there a patch/fix for this ? Or am I doing something wrong ? Greets, Lukas.

Truecolor osd and speed.

Some questions have come up about how to have a high resolution/color osd without having to sacrifice the speed of the osd. VDPAU users have noticed that when using a high resolution theme in yaepghd, it can take 5+ seconds for the osd itself to even be displayed. Per Klaus, VDR's position is this: "VDR renders its OSD into an array (of 8 bit indexes into a palette right now, and of full 24(rgb)+8(alpha) bit color values for truecolor) and its up to the device implementation how it transfers that array (or parts of it) to the actual display hard- or software." Some suggestions by Rnissl have been: -Similar way the eHD handles it -Allow osd areas to overlap and put such images into separate areas -Extend the osd api for scroll commands I thought this was important enough of an issue to post to the mailing list. Hopefully those with knowledge on the subject will participate and a good method can be established. We're finally getting the truecolor osd, just have to make sure it's usable and doesn't suffer from massive slowdown! :) Please, discuss! Regards, Derek

16 colour OSD for vdr

Hi, I've got this problem with xineliboutput using xxmc as its video driver it seems my old graphix card nvidia 440 MX, doesn't support more than 16 colours, when it should do OSD and xxmc :( is there a skin or theme that I can use taht would work good in a 16 colour environment? currently I'm using skinsoppalusikka. The only colour I can see is the blue bar at the top, the rest are black. Any help would be appreciated. vdr-sxfe reports this on the console when I press menu button: video_out: Warning! Out of xx44 palette colours!
