Hi Gavin, thank you for your answer. I own(ed) a Happauge MVP but it is now "lost" somewhere...
I remember that the MVP uses a custom version of the VNC protocol for the menu system... I will have a look if the media transport is compatible.

No need - the VOMP package includes a software for the MediaMVP which completely replaces the one written by Hauppauge ... the MediaMVP still boots off the network but it no longer requires the Hauppauge Windows software.
You are right, it's all done using a little tweaked version of VNC :)
