I have found a solution of sorts: when these are compiled as modules
and are modprobed in then the device nodes appear as normal. I presume
the problem is to do with the order they are loaded in when they are
compiled in. Looking at the dmesg, the nova-t is detected second yet
its frontend is detected first. This could be the source of the
problems however i dont know. I had this behaviour with 2.6.13 and
