The DSM-CC ObjectCarousel protocol is a broadcast protocol based on MPEG2, which is used for transmission of filesystem hierarchies over a MPEG2 channel.

There are lots protocols allowing to mount external filesystems via IP (NFS, SAMBA etc.), but there is only one to do that over a satellite.
