A SetTopBox or STB is an add-on box to your TV that which makes it possible to receive Digital Television. Usually this SetTopBox (STB) implements many nice features like an Electronic Program Guide (EPG), Recording and/or Streaming facilities, Time Shifting etc.

For PCs several free software projects implement a full-featured STB, some examples are VDR, MythTV, KaxTV.

For embdedded devices like the dbox2 or the Dreambox projects like Enigma and Neutrino provide a free software.
