you can use it.

No, but the package on the distribution was compiled with kernel 2.2.18
and the configure script doesn't recognize large file support in this
case.

I've written, that there _is_ an updatepackage on the ftp server, which
support large file.

BTW.: smbclient doesn't support large files.
